Robinson Scholarship

The Chasers Charities - Jackie Robinson Athletic Scholarship, sponsored by the Weitz Company, recognizes local high school athletes for their hard work, character, and volunteer-ism to make an impact on our local community as well as their peers. The scholarship is awarded to one Black male and one Black female who participate in athletics. $1,250.00 is awarded to each winner and is aimed to benefit their college education.

Application deadline is March 21, 2025

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, the student must:

Be a United States citizen or a permanent resident.
Reside in the following counties: Sarpy, Douglas, Cass, Lancaster, and Pottawattamie.
Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Be a Black, high school student-athlete.
Be a high school senior or graduate planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited postsecondary institution.

Application

To apply for this scholarship, the student must provide:

their current, complete transcript of grades.
a letter of recommendation from a current supervising principal, coach or guidance counselor.
their personal statement of how and why sports have been important in their life, including a cover page with necessary contact information.
an essay answering this question: "Which athlete has inspired you and why?" Please include examples.

Winners will be notified no later than April 4, 2025. A ceremony to recognize winners will take place during the Omaha Storm Chasers home game against the Indianapolis Indians on May 4, 2025!
